VAlue of education
Sometimes when working your way through this journey called school, it's hard to step outside and see the long-term impact and value a good education has on one's life. I've heard that some parents pay students for grades, however, even if they don't, the odds are good that you will get paid for your hard work here in school, over the course of your life. Below are two charts: 1) which shows national median wages based on your education level and 2) which shows "in-demand" jobs here in Idaho that only require a (2) year associate degree.
How long does it take to get an advanced degree (typically):
Doctoral degree @ Professional degree = 8 years
Master's degree = 6 years
Bachelor's degree = 4 years
Associate degree = 2 years
The lesson from below... the more schooling you have, the more money you usually make....

HOWEVER... above, you will see a few expections to this. These are jobs that may require only 2 years of additional training beyond High School (depending on the rigor of your high school curriculum), some of which pay far more than the average 4-year Bachelor's degree & 6-year Master's degree!!
Salary & Education for jobs
SALARY.COM
When considering educational goals and how they will affect your particular career or career choice, salary typically plays a huge factor as well as how long it will take to get the training required for your profession. SALARY.COM has a "Salary Wizard" which can tell you how much the job typically pays (both high and low), as well as regional variances in pay, along with what percentage of individuals in that profession have a particular level of education.
VERY VERY USEFUL -> If most people have an associates degree (2 years), do you really want to enroll in a bachelor's program (4 years). If you do, you are spending twice as much on training, and loosing 2 years worth of salary.

4 Year Plan
Why does making a 4 year plan matter?
Most people take for granted that good planning can make the difference between both success and failure of a project or enterprise. The same holds true for one's educational and future endeavors. Having a plan in place is meant to be a guide in making choices that best fit your goals and aspirations. A 4 year plan to become a automotive technician after high school might look vastly different from a 4 year plan to go into chemical engineering. The classes you choose to take in high school will hopefully dovetail with your future plans.
Here is a link that provides a form that can be used to help plan your high school career. If you aren't sure what you want to do, now would be a good time to talk to friends, family, and do some exploration here at school and online to find career choices that intrigue you. Typically, we like those things which we are good or adept at, so at the very least, you can use your personal interests to help make decisions about which classes would make sense for your high school years.
